Free insulation, heating, and more — if you qualify.
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) makes the UK's big energy suppliers pay to upgrade the least efficient homes. If your property is EPC D or below and someone in it receives a qualifying benefit, most measures — insulation, heating, controls — are fully funded. No cost to you.
Does your household qualify?
A full-house approach — not one-off measures.
ECO4 is designed to lift your whole property up the EPC ladder — typically from Band D or lower to Band C. We'll model the measures that move you furthest, fastest.
Two routes in. Most homes use the first.
You can also qualify via your local council under ECO Flex — income thresholds, health conditions, and fuel-poverty indicators. We screen both when you apply.
Qualifying benefits
Someone in the household must receive one of these:
ECO Flex — local authority route
For households in fuel poverty or with vulnerable occupants — often based on income under £31k, long-term health conditions, or being in an off-gas-grid area. We handle the Local Authority Declaration.
Regardless of route, the property itself must be rated EPC D, E, F or G. If you don't have an EPC, we'll arrange one as part of the survey.
Four to six weeks, start to finish.

Talk to an ECO4 advisorYes. ECO4 is funded by the big energy suppliers as part of their government obligation. If your measures are approved, the supplier pays for them. You don't pay us, either — our fee comes from the installer network. The only exception: very large external-wall-insulation jobs on hard-to-treat homes sometimes need a small customer contribution. We'll always tell you upfront if that applies.
No. You can be with any supplier — ECO4 is funded by the obligated companies as a pool, so your own supplier doesn't matter for eligibility.
Most UK properties have an EPC — we'll look it up from your postcode. If yours has expired or doesn't exist, we arrange a new assessment as part of the survey. That's also covered.
Yes — with your written consent. Many landlords actively route tenants through ECO4 because it brings the property above MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards). We supply the consent form.
Only as part of a wider package — and only when paired with insulation that moves the property up an EPC band. Solar on its own isn't funded. Heat pumps follow the same logic.
The government has flagged a successor scheme (sometimes referred to as ECO5 or the Warm Homes Plan). We'll migrate live applications automatically. Until the transition, ECO4 remains open and funded.
Other schemes you might combine with ECO4.
Check your eligibility — takes three minutes.
Funding is allocated quarterly by the suppliers. If you qualify, getting in early in the quarter means a faster install.
